We’re back with our next kick-ass workout celebrating two legendary athletes: Maggie and Patrick Hart.
Past Legends have included “The Ashley,” “The Kory,” and “The Ryan.” These, and now “The Harts” are special, limit-pushing workouts designed to be intense and unforgettable. What makes them so? Because they revolve around what makes this place great: you and this community.
Maggie and her husband Patrick found Alchemy at different times, but are now seasoned regulars who can’t say enough about the power of this community. And now with a new daughter, their time at Alchemy has a whole new meaning as they keep showing up to be the best version of themselves.
Read our conversation with The Harts below, and see their workout which debuts on Monday, September 25!
1. When did you first start coming to Alchemy, and why did you decide to join?
M: I walked into Alchemy LoHi after winning a free month membership off an Instagram giveaway post – luckiest giveaway I’ve ever won. After taking my first Barbell class, I knew I wanted to be part of this community because I had never seen so many girls lift HEAVY in a workout class where there was no cardio involved, which was equally intimidating and inspiring at the same time.
P: I started coming to Alchemy in June of 2022, but my first experience was with Alchemy Anywhere in early 2020 when gyms were shut down. My wife, Maggie, had these workout videos from her new gym and we did them together in the family room/kitchen of our tiny home. I also travel for work and found myself using Alchemy Anywhere workouts in hotel rooms. I decided to join thanks to the persistence of my wife and all of her new friends she was making at the gym.
2. What keeps you coming back to Alchemy? Why have you chosen to train here?
M: Fitness means so much to me, and even more now as a new mom. I want to be a mom who prioritizes being strong over being skinny, showing my little one how strength training is healthy instead of intimidating and “only for men.” Imagine a world in which girls grow up confident in their bodies and feel like they are capable of anything. Every workout I do is molding not only my body but also shaping a positive mindset for my little one.
Carving out time for exercise can bring along a heavy burden of guilt (moms, I see you) – it is time and money I spend on myself rather than my daughter. But I am a FIRM believer that exercise is a promise to our future. My future self will thank me when I am skiing black diamonds, hiking 14ers, and keeping up in a foot race with my husband and daughter one day.
The last thing that keeps me coming back is COMMUNITY – there is nothing better than grinding through a workout surrounded by people who share the same mindset. I look forward to the gym and catching up with friends (Hi 630 AM barbell!). Plus, now that I’ve roped my husband into joining, it couldn’t be better.
P: I’m addicted to having the programming ready for me and tackling whatever workout is on the board that day. It makes the process of staying accountable so much easier when all I have to worry about is showing up. I also can’t get enough of the community and the people I have gotten to know. It’s fun to see the same people each morning and the built-in accountability and camaraderie that comes with it; making me put in my best effort each day, and have more fun. But to be honest, we are all just trying to keep up with my wife.
3. How has Alchemy helped you towards any goals you have, whether fitness related or personal?
M: Oh my gosh – when I walked into Alchemy for the first time, I had never done a pull-up, hang power clean, burpee box jump, the list goes on. Alchemy was a BIIIIIG learning curve at first and has really pushed my physical limits.
But wow, the last year has taught me so much about what it feels like to rebuild from the bottom up. I worked out throughout my entire pregnancy with my last workout being 2 days before giving birth. I had nausea, back pain, fatigue, and insomnia during pregnancy, but it was movement that helped manage all of those symptoms. After birth, your body truly feels like it starts back at square one and WOW, was this humbling. With Alchemy’s workouts being adjustable and with the ability to work at my own pace, I was able to modify movements and intensity as I re-taught my body how to move. At 10 months postpartum, I feel like I am 90% back to my pre-pregnancy self and I have Alchemy to thank for that! Thank you for giving me the much needed mental health break, giving me a chance to prove to myself that I can do hard things, and thank you for all of the friends I’ve made along the way!
P: When I first started with Alchemy Anywhere, I noticed my body starting to feel better. At the time I was dealing with several nagging injuries from competitive sports and had a regimen of running and heavy weightlifting, which was probably doing more harm than good. My main reason for joining is for mental health more than anything physical. It’s the one time of day I can blow off any stress, anxiety, frustration so that I can start my day with a clear mind. Being able to practice pushing past mental barriers of wanting to slow down or stop a workout can be a great translation to other aspects of my life. Every morning is an opportunity to get better, even if just a little. I may have a tough day at work, a tough day personally, but being able to hang my hat on improving my physical and mental fitness each morning is a nice small win to start the day.
