FEAR OF THE START

Nerves. Anxiety. Bubble guts. Nervous pee. Shaky knees. Yawning. Cold shivers. Jelly legs. It all comes down to the same thing; the fear of the start. The fear of the start of the workout, the race, of walking into a busy concert after wading through long lines at the door, the fear trying your very first Alchemy workout.
It’s not only common to get nervous about a new and perhaps intimidating experience, but it’s totally healthy. In fact, our animal instincts are set up to signal to our brains that DANGER LURKS and that THREATS ABOUND! But, unless you’ve had a nasty run-in with a grizzly bear recently, or had to fight your way through a pack of hyena’s with lasers shooting out of their eyes, the dangers and threats causing your nervous pee in 2017 are more… shall we say… manageable.
Time for another list:
Embarrassment. Failure. Fatigue. Confidence. Confusion. Momentary solitude. These are the things that keep most people from taking on the things that deep down, they really, really, really want to do.
Just as consistently as the symptoms of anxiety present themselves, there’s another consistent truth that never fails.
Once you take your first step, once the lights go down, once you open your mouth to sing your first note of Piano Man during Karaoke night at your local watering hole, once you hear 3…2…1…GO! the symptoms fade, and everything but the path forward is swept away. There’s something incredibly empowering about action, any action, all action. Action cleanses us, relieves us and focuses us in a way that analysis never could.
As a business, we hope we help you feel more alive. We hope we inspire you. We hope we motivate you. We hope we empower and prepare you. But all of that takes you only so far. It’s up to you to take what you’ve got and force your way into the life you’ve always dreamed of.
The fact of the matter is, I can’t completely guarantee you that you won’t fall on your face, or sing like a maniac (a good thing at karaoke?), or have to go through some growing pains of your own, but I am begging you to be honest with yourself today – this very moment – about the thing(s) you’ve always wanted to try but never had the guts to, to line it up in your sites, take a deep breath, and step forth onto the path.
Go, take your nervous pee. Then get to work.
