Hey everyone, Kevin here -I wanted to say a few words about our event with Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA) this weekend. This event is an important cause and is deeply important to me and here’s why:
My mother was one of the many unfortunate women who found out too late. The story is like many, common symptoms of abdominal pain, some swelling and bloating – not uncommon things for women to go through. She was dieting to prepare for my uncle’s wedding. She thought things were going well because she was losing weight. Yet, the abdominal pains continued. She went in to check it out, only to find out the most unlikely thing: she was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.
They tried everything, but it took her life too quickly – she was only 34.
Years later, this opportunity with my Alchemy family has come to participate in MOCA’s efforts in the research and battle against this disease. It is extremely important that all women get their check-ups, only 15% of ovarian cancer patients are diagnosed early. It is the 5th leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers.
My heart smiles every time I see fellow coach and friend Molly Hanten’s mother, Ellen Hanten, an ovarian cancer survivor herself, in class working hard and strengthening her body with a smile on her face. This weekend, for 30 minutes of my life, I will be doing this workout for my mother, Anne Mirabito, for Ellen Hanten and all the other survivors, fighters and those lost. #SU2C #standuptocancer #burpeesvscancer
