In August of last year, I made a decision that fundamentally changed my life. After roughly three years with the company, I decided to step away from Alchemy 365. I did so in order to move back home to my home state of Vermont, to live at home with my mom, and to do whatever I could to support my family. And through it all, I could feel Alchemy in my heart.
As COVID-19 began to sweep through the country, and businesses began to close, that feeling was amplified 100x. I relentlessly pestered anyone and everyone I could get ahold of, always with one burning question:
“How is Alchemy doing?”
I did what I could to stay plugged into the community. From the Alchemy Community Facebook Group to the Burpee Wave and everywhere between, it was my goal to stay immersed in the community that had given me so much. At the end of the day I just wanted to do something – anything – to help the community that had helped me become the person that I am. Because at the end of the day, it was the Alchemy community that stayed in my heart.

Fast forward to June of this year. An opportunity presented itself, and in a flash I was back to Minnesota with the team and the community I love so dearly. It was something I had been thinking about for quite some time, and when the offer came through I knew in my heart it was, now, the right thing to do. There was no if; there was only when. I’m officially back in Minnesota, back with Alchemy, and back to coaching where it all began for me in Edina.

There is no playbook for making a decision like this. There is no protocol, no checklist, to tell you that what you’re doing is truly the right thing. Especially now, given the circumstances, there is no “right answer.” Only you can know, for you, if what you are doing is right. So, I won’t sit here and tell you what you should do when it comes to life-changing decisions.
But I will tell you this:
When I made my decision, I wasn’t motivated (just) by the prospect of getting back to coaching; I had been coaching at a local CrossFit affiliate the whole time I was home. When I made my decision, I wasn’t motivated (just) by the prospect of immersing myself in fitness; like many of you, I did more workouts during the lockdown than I had in the months preceding. No, when I made my decision I was motivated by one thing more than anything else:
I was motivated by the community.
I was motivated by you.

The world is nothing short of upside down right now. As we navigate the process of living life on life’s terms, there’s a lot that goes into every decision of every day…and it’s rarely easy to do. So in the midst of all the chaos, allow me to provide a few things you can be sure of:
