A101 – As good as it gets
by: Kate Moret
My journey into the fitness industry started in 2011. I was living in Boston, looking for ways to get more involved in my community (AKA make friends) and I joined an Equinox gym. As an avid exerciser for my entire life (soccer, track, and long distance running), I was immediately hooked on the swanky, high-quality workout equipment of the gym. However, after a few months, I realized I had barely had a single conversation with anyone in my new “community”.
Deciding I needed to take it one step further, I thought maybe if I became an Instructor, then I could really get involved. Back then, to teach at Equinox, you needed to go through the American Fitness Association of America to become a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. It was a one-day class, 7am-6pm, in the basement of a local YMCA, with a pass/fail test at the end. I spent high three-figures of dollars on the day, and then had to buy three textbooks prior, along with a 90’s style workout video. Having no context for the time/cost/content of these programs, I figured this was normal. Coming out of this first fitness seminar/training, I was SO excited. Truly. I learned words like Supine, and Posterior, and was completely convinced I had found a new passion.
Little did I know how much my journey into fitness trainings would drastically improve and evolve over the next five years. In the last five years, I have completed over ten different trainings, seminars, and programs on topics such as: 200hr Yoga Teaching, Kettlebells, Interval Bootcamps, Holistic Nutrition, and more, with various companies. After each program, with gained knowledge and experience, I have been able to be more critical and honest about the value they have provided me – both with great benefits and large opportunities for improvement.
In the fall of 2015, I sat down with Molly (who I had previously taken a yoga training from) to talk about Alchemy101. At that point, I was teaching yoga regularly, and also #Allin on Alchemy. As proof, my Alchemy true confession is that I bought my Founding Membership before every going to a single Alchemy class. Seriously. My gut knew that I had to be in this place, with these people, doing this workout. So after a few months of working out at Alchemy, I knew I was ready to dive in even more. I didn’t necessarily know if I wanted to coach or not yet, although I knew I wanted more Alchemy – however I could get it.
I can honestly say, after five years of fitness trainings, programs, and seminars that Alchemy 101 is the smartest, most efficient, and most ‘bang-for-your-buck’ program I have ever completed. I remember during the lectures, I didn’t even want to take a bathroom break as to miss something Tyler was discussing. Now here I am. One year later. A full-time Alchemy employee about to help lead the A101, and I couldn’t be more proud and honored.
This program. These people. I doesn’t get any better. Trust me.
