Meet Alma, our next Legend Athlete!
Past Legends have included “The Api,” and “The Lucy.” These, and now “The Alma” are special, limit-pushing workouts designed to be intense and unforgettable; highlighting our incredible Athletes.
Alma joined Alchemy in 2022 and just surpassed 450 classes! Since joining, she’s been accomplishing things she never thought possible. Read about her experience and see her workout below!
My husband and I joined Alchemy when the RiNo studio opened in July 2022, by total chance! We had just moved to Denver the year prior and were sitting on our sofa looking for a new coffee shop to try. While we were searching the map, my husband noticed a gym icon only a couple blocks away. We hadn’t walked that direction before, so he clicked on it to check it out. Alchemy was offering free classes for the grand opening or RiNo that very weekend. We decided to go for it, and become founding members right away.
I discovered working out later in life, and most of the workouts I was doing before Alchemy were cardio based. Alchemy gave me the opportunity to explore strength training for the first time, that didn’t feel daunting or out of reach. I have made more progress at Alchemy than anywhere else. I’m doing banded pull-ups and toes-to-bar, and just last week I hit a new PR in my box jump height! I would have never tried it without the support of the coaching staff, who are always encouraging me and challenging me – whether it’s grabbing a heavier weight, a taller box, or removing a band for my pull-ups.
I’ve also made some great friendships. From seeing the same people working out beside you, to exchanging phone numbers and getting together for coffee or drinks after class, I’ve met so many of my own neighbors because of Alchemy!
Ultimately, I want to be healthy and stay active for as long as possible. Alchemy has certainly made me feel stronger than ever before, and capable of trying more new things. This year I’m trying my hand at skiing. It hasn’t been without its pitfalls (“falls” being the operative word ), but without the strength I’ve gained at Alchemy, I’m not sure I would be able to be out on the mountain for hours at a time.
In the studio, my ultimate goal is to be able to do unassisted pull ups! I’m working on my upper body strength and every now and then I take away some band resistance. Yesterday, someone I’d never met came up to me and said I was flying through my pull ups. My initial reaction was to downplay her compliment, but instead I said, “Thanks, I’ve been working on them!”
It made me realize, even when you think you’re not doing so great, there are people who are watching and feeling a little inspired by you. We’re all making each other better.
