FRIDAY’S WORKOUT

Today we are celebrating Juneteenth, the oldest-known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. It was on this day in 1865 that Union Soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas with the news that the enslaved were now free. It is important to distinguish that Juneteenth is not a celebration of President Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation but instead a symbolic date representing African American freedom. While slavery has long since ended, racism has not. Because of that, we are taking the day to listen and to learn, and we are calling on our community to do the same. You can read more on the significance of Juneteenth from Alchemy coach Sheila Meh here.
